We breed our Golden Retrievers for health in addition to temperament. Some breeds are more prone to certain health conditions than other breeds, and Golden Retrievers are no different. Being careful to breed only genetically sound Goldens greatly reduces the chance of their offspring experiencing health issues common in the breed. Before we decide to breed a dog, we require that s/he passes all of the health tests recommended by the Golden Retriever Club of America (hips, heart, eyes, and elbows). We use the Golden Retriever Essential Panel from Paw Print Genetics to test our dogs’ DNA so we can ensure they are free of the genotypes that can cause Ichthyosis, Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis 5, and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). We also take part in the American Kennel Club’s (AKC) Bred with H.E.A.R.T. program. We do not have any stud dogs on property, so we work with other breeders who share our values and standards. You will receive documentation of both the sire and dam’s health clearances in your puppy packet.

Our puppies have their dew claws removed. We work with a veterinary reproductive specialist who has given us a protocol for parasite control. Our puppies will be dewormed and will have had their first set of vaccinations by the time they go to their new homes. Before they go home, they will have been tested and cleared for all parasites. Since vet appointments are often difficult for a new owner to obtain on short notice, we have a veterinarian check and clear each puppy for good health before you pick them up.
